In a nutshell

This is an outstanding opportunity for an expert Leader of Health, Safety and Environment, to join our Operations, Safety and Security function at Virgin Atlantic (VAA). You will be responsible for the delivery of competent health, safety and environmental advice to the business in order to reduce the likelihood of accidents/incidents and to ensure compliance with HS&E legislation.

You will champion the promotion of safety and risk management and continuous improvement across the business in a pragmatic and enabling manner. In addition to this you will also provide your business areas with statistical summaries and management information to various committees drawing attention to key trends and driving improvement activity.

Day to day

• Provide strong and inspired leadership to the HSE team promoting and maintaining strong employee morale

• Establish high expectations for the team with regard to performance and brand values. Setting clear performance expectations, accountabilities and feedback

• Promote the VAA Safety Culture and advise on divisional safety objectives

• Develop training implementation plans to ensure health & safety requirements are delivered effectively to target specific business areas

• Review UK/EU/International legislation and take a lead role in understanding the impact on the business

• Work with key areas to review their processes and develop standards/procedures to enable the implementation of new/revised legislation

• Dedicated to support the management of risk

• Champion and lead effective identification of risk, safety advice and recommendations in conjunction with each division

• Work with the business to ensure that health & safety management is a key decision-making criteria in awarding any third party contracts

• Provide statistical summaries management information to various committees drawing attention to key trends and driving improvement activity

About you

As the Principal Advisor – Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E), it’s desirable to be qualified to CMIOSH status and have experience of implementing HS&E management within diverse organisations, and have knowledge of the HS&E legislative framework.

You will demonstrate integrity and independence with an ability to balance safety and risk against business and operational demands. You’ll influence strategy and initiatives with little mentorship, whilst also the ability to be resolute in determining outcomes.

As a Leader of people, you will have experience in leading, motivating and encouraging a team coupled with strong interpersonal and influencing skills. If the above sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you!
