Job Purpose
• Apprentice Groundsperson working/training across Hove County Ground, Preston Nomads Cricket Club and Blackstone as directed by the Head Groundsman
• Carry out all duties in a safe manner within current Health & Safety Regulations

Main Learning Areas and Responsibilities
• Undertake and successfully complete a groundsperson apprenticeship qualification at Plumpton College (exact nature of course to be determined according to the individual concerned)
• Lone/unsupervised working where appropriate and where competent
• Wicket preparation: covering, cutting, verticutting, watering, rolling, marking out etc.
• Match day duties: set up fielding nets/practice facilities, positioning boundary rope, setting out fielding discs, positioning sightscreens, setting up advertising boards, sweeping wicket at interval, repairing foot holes, re-marking wicket
• Maintenance of square: mowing/presentation, verticutting, fertilising, repairing wickets, re-seeding, watering, covering up, spiking
• Maintenance of outfield: mowing/presentation, fertilising, repairs, re-seeding, spiking
• Upkeep of grass net area and preparation of practice facilities and provision of wickets
• Maintenance, repair and setting up of all grounds care machinery
• Perform pre-start checks and routine maintenance to turfcare machinery
• Be available at The County Ground as required to assist during matches
• Carry out any other task related to the role and business objectives that the Head Groundsman/ Chief Executive may deem appropriate

• Work with others in your department and across the wider Club to achieve the Organisation’s goals
• Develop a relationship with all departments and understand their roles
• Project and promote a positive image of the Sussex Cricket at all times

Sussex CCC was the first First-Class County formed in 1839

In November 2015, an historic merger took place between Sussex County Cricket Club and the Sussex Cricket Board, to form Sussex Cricket Limited (SCL). SCL is responsible for the governance and development of the whole game in the county, from recreational to professional level.

Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest professional sports club in the world and one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. The club has always held first-class status. Sussex have competed in the County Championship since the official start of the competition in 1890 and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.

The Club won its first County Championship in 2003, which was the beginning of an era in which Sussex enjoyed prolonged success, named 'The Golden Decade'.

Sussex Cricket also incorporates the Sussex Cricket Foundation (SCF). Through the activities, it provides the SCF aim to make cricket accessible to all.
