Powertrain Senior Design Analyst (CAE/CFD)
Our client, a West Sussex multi-sector engineering consultancy with global customers and main roots in the automotive sector is seeking analyst/design analysis engineer with 4-8 years’ experience in engine design to join their Classical Analysis/CAE department. This position would give you the opportunity to use and build upon your knowledge in the analysis of the various factors affecting the operation of powertrains, vehicles and machinery in general, including thermodynamics, thermal, mechanical and electromagnetic loads, combustion, tribology & lubrication, dynamics and vibratory behaviour. The subject of the analysis work is a healthy mix of mass production powertrains, together with novel machinery and technologies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:
As part of the analysis team you will be collaborating with the design team to define the architecture of engines, electrical machines, vehicles, transmissions as well as their individual components and subsystems, often starting from clean sheet. The job will allow you to use and extend your knowledge of the various disciplines and skills, beyond analysis, required to successfully deliver projects, potentially allowing you to manage multidisciplinary programs. Development of analysis tools, as well as supporting junior team members is part of the job description
EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS:
- Sizing and simulation of engine components (valvetrains, bearings, crankshafts, timing drives)
- Structural analysis and optimisation of components and assemblies through a combination of FEA and well established empirical methods
- Multiphysics simulation of complex systems involving interaction of fluids with mechanical as well as electromagnetic components to achieve best overall performance
- 1-D modelling of fluid circuits for lubrication, heating and cooling, and power transmission
- Simulation of performance and fuel economy of engines and vehicles
- CFD analysis of fluid motion (gas or liquid), often including heat transfer and combustion
- Proposal and report witing
- Client liaison
- The tools we use are: GT-SUITE, Matlab, ANSYS, Converge – Creo & NX, Solidworks
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MIX IDEALLY REQUIRED:
Four to eight years solid engine design analysis experience
- Mechanical, automotive or similar engineering applied physics or applied mathematics degree
- Good theoretical, math and analytical skills preferably relating to dynamics and kinematics of mechanisms and fluids
