As a Local Board member you’ll act as the link between your Academy and its community while getting involved in many aspects of the strategic leadership of an academy. You will contribute to discussions on the Academy’s strategic direction; ensure the Academy develops and maintains strong links with its local community; ensure that there is effective communication with parents/carers and other stakeholders; oversee pupil wellbeing; and serve on Academy and Trust panels.
Local Board members include a mix of people from the local community. You’ll work alongside elected parent and staff representatives, and the Academy’s Principal.
Each Local Board meets formally 3-4 times each academic year and there are also opportunities to visit the academy during the daytime and to join celebration events. There are also occasional formal hearings which require Local Board involvement.
The average time commitment is 10-15 hours each term. You will spend time at meetings, completing background reading and on academy visits. This is a voluntary role, so we’ll provide you with free training and all the support you’ll need.
